Incommensurate
Vellum paper, Linen, India Ink
2026
Incommensurate is a sculptural work exploring the ephemerality of grief, and the implications of wounding. Hanging from above, illustrations stitched with linen thread mingle and sway. The spacing between panels creates a spectrum of legibility and confusion, shifting at every angle.
Incommensurate attempts to trace the edges of those memories which illuminate my father. Of course, there is no piece large enough in scale or meaning to adequately honor him, and the failure of this memorial is as much a part of the piece as any of the materials involved. This piece is about fleeting imagery, hospital beds, the feeling of dizziness, and the utter confusion of losing a parent at a young age. Incommensurate is the impossibly delicate task of aging without Dad.
